Perhaps you’re here because you’ve just found a “lost” golf ball on some local course, near Devon, Alberta (or beyond!), or perhaps you just like golf and were curious. No matter.
In late June of 2009, a bunch of really bad golfers from our church (or people who can fake it fairly well!) got together for a Saturday breakfast and golf game with the expressed intent of losing some personalized Callaway® Warbird+ balls in the rough and under the trees. Hopefully, the balls should still be in pretty good shape, and if you’ve found one or two, we trust they’ll be a blessing to you!
On one side, you’ll find our website and logo (which you can decipher on the “Even More” link in the above menu), and on the other side (see above), there’s a fairly famous line from that well known Christian piece of music, Amazing Grace. “Lost and found”, by the way, was a huge theme to Jesus; if you doubt it, just take a look at Luke’s entire 15th chapter in the Bible. We feel so confident about the theme, in fact, that if Jesus was a 21st Century Canadian, we strongly suspect that he’d be teaching parables about lost golf balls.
The point in all this, of course, is to bless those who love finding small “treasures”— decent quality golf balls when they head into the brush looking for their own. The even larger point, though, is to remind you, the reader, that until we’ve found Jesus, we’re all rather lost in our spiritual lives, too. We need to be found. We need to be open to being found.
Are you found? If your life ended today, would you be prepared to meet Him who is both Lord and Judge of all?
Tough question? Certainly. Important, though? Absolutely! As a pastor, I would not have anyone float their way through life without, at least, taking some time to ponder the gravity of it all. If you were to look at “the course” of your life (as a metaphor), “fairways” are intended to give you a time to praise God, and “the rough” is intended as a time to draw closer to Him. So, what’s your lie?
And are you telling the truth?
In the end, we hope you enjoyed finding these Callaways, as much as we rather enjoyed losing them. As Jesus said, “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). We would also want to remind you that Jesus had a lot to say about the concepts of “finding and losing”. Jesus said, “those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it” (Matthew 10:39).
If you ever decide to risk losing your life (a.k.a. your agenda, your plans, your priorities) for the sake of knowing Jesus and His plans for you (and you live in our vicinity), then perhaps it’s time you join a community of worshipers like Regency Christian Church— a group of people, just like you, hoping to become just like Him.
If you would like to know more, or have a few questions, just send me an e-mail at 4regency@telus.net. And, don’t worry, no question is too simple or silly.
Rest assured, God’s grace makes a new life possible— the same amazing grace that even plants golf balls (like seeds) hoping good things will grow for the Kingdom of God.
Grace to you, in the Lord Jesus Christ,
Sincerely,
Pastor David MacKenzie
On behalf of Regency Christian Church
